2 pc Wood Patterns Hydraulic Valve Body Foundry Precision Casting Molds Job 73982 Solid Mahogany pattern molds job #739811 3/4″ tall, and other side 11 1/2″ tall, these were mounted on opposite sides of a match plate. These are 6″ by 6″ at the top (when put back to back), 9″ wide at the baseThese were the molds to make aluminum precision castings, which then were the molds used in the foundry to cast the metal parts. Condition: Decent, they were foundy used and have some wear at top edges, and some storage wear from years of being stored in pattern archive in upper attic of a factory building. Today, there are almost no molds made anymore from wood. They are either made from plastic stock or metal. This mold set is from an age of days gone by, where most patterns were made from wood. Pattern making is a highly skilled trade that required a lot of handwork years ago, now most everything is made with CAD CAM machines. Pattern making required often working within 5/1000ths of an inch, and was one of the highest paid trades.My father is winding down his 50 year pattern industry business, and this came from his pattern archives. This was the original wood mold that my fathers’ business was subcontracted by a foundry to make this original mold. Mold is painted red.
