We offer for your consideration this antique P.S.Bartlett./ Waltham pocket watch in 18K gold hunter Case. This pocket watch is Non-OperationalThis pocket watch is offered for restorationWatch needs a new crystal. The mainspring may have separated from the barrel.Wind plate needs to be refastened This is an antique 1869 American Watch Co./ Waltham full hunter pocket watch. This watch case is a full hunter, and measures approximately 43.5 mm in diameter/11.5 mm in thickness, front to back. This case carries a “Crown” over “18” stamp, in two locations, that leads us to believe it is an 18K gold case. We suspect it is of European manufacture ?The front cover is spring set, the crystal bezel is press set. The crystal is cracked and in need of a replacement. The front case cover spring is a bit sticky, perhaps a bit of oil may improve its function.The edge of the case is a shallow U channel with a string of beads pattern running along the center of the channel. The front cover and the back cover are both hinge set, with the hinges at 90 degree offset locations. both covers share the same design pattern with the exception of there being a small shield on the front cover, and the back cover has a small cross hatched patterned boss at its center.both covers have a radial cross hatched pattern across the entire field. Both have a fancy scrolled pattern bunting shape below the pendant. at the bottom of the covers there is a five leaf pattern surrounded by very ornate scrollworks. (See picture) The dial of this watch is white porcelain enamel with a sunk seconds dial. The dial is labeled “American Watch Co.” There are fine line roman numerals marking the 12 hours. Along the outside the minutes are indicated, in a fine line double border, as fine line black ticks, with slightly heavier triangular ticks at the 12, 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions. This dial is in very good condition.The seconds dial is marked with small arabic numbers at 10 second intervals. All the hands are very fine blued steel whip style.This watch is a key set & wind, two keys come with the watch, both are labeled “Sept 1st 1874” on one side, and “Patented” on the obverse side. It’s nice to see that after 152 years, this is still a beautiful looking timepiece.The works is currently non-operational. The mainspring, when wound, feels like it is detached.The winding plate needs to be reattached.The crystal needs to be replaced.The total weight of this watch is 62.86 grams.
