Antique 19thC Large Signed Meissen Porcelain Figural Group Acier Schoenheit Click images to enlarge Description DESCRIPTION: This listing is for a stunning and rare, antique Meissen gilt and polychrome enamel decorated hard paste porcelain figural group of gardeners, for Meissen Porzellan Manufaktur, designed circa 1780 by Michel Victor Acier (French 1736-1799) and Johann Carl Schoenheit (German 1730-1805) and produced after 1850. The figural group is very finely crafted and modeled, depicting a group of six “gardener” nobles working in a garden comprising a male figure standing atop a stacked rock base with tree trunk support, holding a basket of flowers in his right hand, in his left he offers his female companion a nosegay of flowers, as she balances a basket full of blossoms atop her head while holding up her apron which is filled with flowers, below her a young boy uses a watering can while a young lady rakes the ground, on the back a hatless man plunges his shovel into the ground while a young girl holds a potted plant on her lap and a nosegay in her right hand, raised on circular plinth stamped with interlaced gilt edged circles alternating with rosettes in ovals. Marked with underglaze blue crossed swords on edge of base, “D 97″ (incised in script), and 2B in red letters. The whole is exquisitely hand-painted. This figural group will make an outstanding addition to any collection! CONDITION: The figural group presents well and is in good antique condition. There is minimal wear to painted finish. Please note there are several scattered chips and losses: the gentleman at the top has chips to flowers on his hat and lacks part of the basket handle; figure holding rake is missing the lower half of rake; figure holding shovel is missing part of the shovel handle, girl holding potted flowers has chips to its flowers; the set is sold as found.
