This is a lovely antique Czech Bohemian Beverage Tantalus with Small decanter and 6 shot glasses. Red glass with coralene design. Coralene glass was a victorian form of decoration on glass. A design was painted on the glass and then raised decorations were made by firing small colored glass beads on the outside of the glassware. The result was intended to look like the rough surface of coral. Much of the coralene is missing on this decanter, or it was made to be rather plain. (see photos for details). The popularity of coralene extended into the 1920s. and other similiar decanters i have found reference this as early 20th century. Hinged top lid reveals interior metal platform that holds a small decanter with stopper and 6 small cordial shot glasses. The metal platform is tarnished in areas (see photos) There are no visible ID markings on the red glass piece, but the metal insert holding the decanter and glasses is marked “Made in B Czechoslovakia” and there is a sticker on the bottom of the decanter that says “Made in Czechoslovakia”. The brass closure snaps closed tightly. 3 of the little shot glasses are chipped (see photos). Some of the red paint is missing here and there on the glass. (see photos), but given its age and fragility it is in good condition. Measures 10.25″ tall, Top is 6″ wide and Bottom is 5″ wide This came from a lovely estate sale. I did a little cleaning of the piece, but will leave it to the buyer to clean and condition further to your liking. I will package this with the utmost care.
