Famous Otto Carius `s Tiger 217 with accurate unit markings. Top building quality Kit with refined detail,multi-slide molded lower hull, and turret. Outstanding details throughout the whole model and very high standard accuracy on every individual part. Add brass photo-etched parts and clear parts. Add track links with road wheel detail. Rotating turret and gun. Add on vehicle tools and more add-on details. TURRET: * The turret is the later style which has realistic Zimmerit effect. * Turret interior with sharp details including seats, gun and more. * Much small detail such as the grab handle and MG mount. * The loader’s hatch and rear escape hatch both have hinge detail and internal detail. * Clear plastic parts for the periscopes and vision blocks. * The spare tracks on the turret. * Brass PE parts are provided for the hasps on the turret stowage bins with six parts per hasp and lock pair, as well as the levers on the cupola periscopes. HULL: * Road wheel with bolts and hub details. * Hull interior with details. * Small 600mm rear idler in great detail. * Two sets of on-vehicle tools are provided * PE brass clamps provided. * A preformed semi-circular support for the spade head is provided. * Tow cables are is built from twisted metal and brass photo-etch brackets. * The upper hull has the turret ring guard which was a feature added in 1944. * A pre-bent piece of metal for the cable powering the Bosch headlight on the upper glacis. ENGINE DECK: * The engine deck has significant extra detail compared to past Tiger kits. * All visible parts below the four air vents such as the fuel tank, radiator, fans and ducting are included. * Some ducting and frames are made of PE brass parts. * Preformed brass PE mesh screens (with the edges bent downwards) for the engine deck grilles. * The wooden deck over the fuel tanks, which was introduced in April 1944 is included. * The rear grilles can be positioned in the raised position to better display the interior detail. Buffing and polishing to remove mold seam. Base color with primer and putty for better surface detail. Airbrushed and painted with multicolor. Add clear paint for good finishing on decal applying. Washing to enhance the surface detail increase the appearance of depth including panels, doors, hatches, rivets, bolt head and more. Dry brushing to emphasize and highlight texture with edge for good wear, tear and fading. Multi-color filters for blend color effects. Add nonglossy paint for better finishing. He was a recipient of the Knight`s Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves. Soon after Otto Carius graduated from school, World War II broke out. Carius enlisted in the army, and was only accepted after twice being rejected as unfit for service due to being underweight. He first served in the infantry, before volunteering for the Panzer branch. In 1943, Carius transferred to the 502nd Heavy Panzer Battalion. He became commander of a Jagdtiger company of the 512th Heavy Antitank Battalion at the beginning of 1945. On 8 March 1945, 2nd Company was directed to the front line near Siegburg, where it took part in the defense of the River Rhine. He surrendered to the United States Army on 7 May 1945 and was released on 21 May 1945.He is considered a “panzer ace” credited with destroying more than 150 enemy tanks and 1 Plane, mostly on the Eastern Front. After the war, Carius studied pharmacy at Heidelberg University and set up a pharmacy which he named the “Tiger Apotheke” as a tribute to the Tiger tank. He also authored a book about his wartime experiences called “Tigers in the Mud”, which was released in 1960. Carius ran his pharmacy until retiring in 2011. He died on 24 January 2015 at age 92 TIGER: World War II German Army Heavy Tank, full designation “Sonderkraftfahrzeug 181 Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung E”. Active in Africa and Europe from 1942, Tiger was the first tank-mounted application of high-velocity 88mm gun, Kampfwagenkanone “8.8cm KwK 36”. Over 1,340 built from 1942 until 1944, when Tiger II was introduced and title “Tiger I” was applied to Tiger tank retrospectively. Although expensive to manufacture and heavy on fuel consumption, Tiger I had a fearsome reputation with the power to kill an enemy tank more than one mile away. Features of Mid Production Tiger I were new turret with smaller commander`s cupola and rubber-rimmed road wheels. Late Production Tiger I had steel road wheels. Tiger 131 at the Tank Museum in UK is the only surviving Tiger I in running order.
