eBay For sale is an exceptionally rare and spectacular miniature or salesman sample sized New York Empire style Ottoman/footstool The footstool being from a private New York collection from a collector of antique 19th century US patent models. That is all we know about its history. Was it a patent? We are unsure. No patent tag applied. We have sold 100s of salesman sample furniture pieces but this piece is something that we have not seen before. We could be wrong as we are not period furniture experts but we believe it to be a New York empire style ottoman. We are fairly certain it is a 3rd quarter 19th century piece. The upholstery possibly being original but also possibly being a later early 20th century replacement of the original material. Please see our close-up and detailed pictures for consideration. We are uncertain about the wood species, but we believe it to be a high quality mahogany or other exotic wood species carved base. We have included close-up details of the woodgrain for your consideration. The bottom of the piece having a more recent dust jacket batting material added to protect the inner cushioning material. There is a slit opening where you can see the original batting and spring material. (See pics). Contemporary glides have been added to keep the ottoman/footstol raised. We have no intention to sell this cheap as we are absolutely in love with it 😂😂 We will gladly keep it in our collection before selling it for less than what we believe it is worth. We have never seen one before, and it is amongst the best miniature salesman sample pieces that we have ever come across. Measurements Height – 4 3/8″ Width – 7″ Depth 6 1/2″ Cushion – 6 1/4″ x 6 1/4 square.
