These prints are of the original art work by Henry Mosler, a 19th century American-Jewish artist. He was barely 20 years of age at the beginning of the Civl War. Landed a job as an artist-correspondent for Harper’s Weekly and became attached to the Army of the Ohio with secial permission of General William T. Sherman. He officially served as an aide-de-camp with the rank of lieutenant from 1861 until 1863, and became a close confidant of the General. Sherman even allowed Mosler to sketch his portrait for inclusion in an article and took him on a personel tour of the Shiloh battlefield immediately following the engagement to insure artistic accuracy. Mosler’s Civil War experiences had a profound influence on many of his paintings. The companion works “Leaving for War” (1873) and “Lost Cause” (1869) were intended as part of the nation’s healing process, while eliciting a sympathy and respect for the physical suffering of the South and the permanent loss of traditional southern culture. These prints were done under special permission of the Museum of The Confederacy in Richmond Virginia. I do have the companion print ” Lost Cause” in another auction. These are not framed, I will leave that up to you and your own choice for what you like. They will be shipped in a roll up tube for ease of shipping, and to prevent any damage. Shipping in the States will be USPS Priority Mail. International, we will contact you after auction ends with arrangements and costs.
