MARANTZ 4400 FULLY RESTORED GREEN SCOPE 4400 VINTAGE QUAD AM/FM RECEIVER / WC-43 CABINET. This is my 82nd Fully Restored 4400 with (80) sold to date. This is another one of my typical Fully Restored 4400s. You are bidding on one of Marantz’s Flagship Quad receivers!!! This 4400 was fully restored and includes a reproduction WC-43 wood cabinet. This is a late Green Scope 1974 production model dated 12-10-1974 . The Faceplate / Knobs are really nice, (9.5/10). The rear is nice. The Green scope tube is at 100%. The FM is above average. Pulls in stations very well. 363 Components Replaced Total 144 electrolytic capacitors 2 speaker protection relays 9 potentiometers 7 fuses 18 lamps 8 output insulators 1 power switch 91 transistors 4 field-effect transistors 2 film capacitors 4 ceramic capacitors 13 varistors 5 diodes 5 resistors 32 tantalum capacitors 2 main filter/ripple capacitors Work Performed Receiver stripped down and fully inspected. All switches and controls cleaned and cycled numerous times with different cutting agents and lubricants to ensure proper operation All lamps upgraded to LEDs. All boards completely hand re-soldered and flux cleaned to prevent crosstalk Both main filter/ripple capacitors replaced with stock value 20,000UF/50VDC All 178 electrolytic capacitors replaced with all high quality Panasonic, Nichicon, and ELNA RFSII Silk—audio graded types used in signal path Both speaker protection relays replaced with new 48VDC Omron type The main power switch replaced with 7A E-Switch AM/FM Section recapped. DOLBY Module recapped. 6 fuses replaced to prevent false alarm failure due to age All nine adjustment potentiometers in the amplifier section and on the power supply replaced with Multi turn type for accurate adjustments All 8 output transistors replaced and installed with greaseless insulators All 7 transistors on the power supply were replaced Amplifier’s known to fail differential transistors, constant current transistors and Driver section heat monitoring transistors replaced to ensure reliability Amplifier’s lower ground straps sanded and re-soldered All eight varistors in the amplifier section replaced with series stacked 1N4148 diodes All six transistors in the phono stage replaced with low noise high gain type to ensure clean and reliable phono section operation Both switching diodes and one varistor replaced in the phono section All eight transistors in the bi-Amplification section were replaced with high gain low noise type All four transistors in the amplifier two-four channel section were replaced All Six transistors in the Matrix Board were replaced All eight transistors in the tone control section were replaced with low noise high gain type All eighteen transistors in the pre-amplifier section were replaced with high gain low noise type All four varistors in the pre-amplifier section were replaced with low noise high gain type One film capacitor and two ceramic capacitors were replaced with Mylar low tolerance type Power supply’s scope section’s plug in connector inspected for high voltage arching One 1/4w 10K Ohm resistor on the power supply was replaced Power supply’s rectifier stages tested Scope amplifier’s Vertical and Horizontal transistors were replaced (eight total) Six high resistance value resistors known to fail on the scope amplifier board replaced with ½ Watt 1% tolerance type Amplifier’s Idle Current and DC offset values set to factory specification after overhaul and re checked after burn in time Power supply’s 35VDC adjustment performed All 26 tantalum capacitors known to drift out of value or fail were replaced with audio graded electrolytic The Scope Tube is at 100%. The tube was adjusted to factory specifications. The pictures tell it all. The Scope was aligned and adjusted for brightness and focus. Both Audio Amplifier Boards DC Offset and Forward Bias set to factory specifications. The Internal Chassis does have some surface oxidation/ rust but this is typical for a lot of these 45 year old receivers. Receiver tested in all modes, everything works. Fantastic clean sound out of all four channels. This unit does not include a SQA Decoder or Decoder Cover Plate.
