Mixson Leathercraft 71 Leather Duty Belt Men’s 40 & HC1 Handcuff Holster Lot Description Up for sale is a lot of vintage Mixson Leathercraft related items. Included in this lot is a 71B leather duty belt and an HC1 Handcuff Holster. The leather duty belt was found in a storage box and belonged to a family member that’s no longer with us, so for all intents and purposes, this auction listing is part of ongoing online estate sale of sorts. The leather belt has three button down straps (that are removable), a fixed leather loop (for the belt to slide in through) and a flashlight holster that reads Jay-Pee Flash Light on the back in slightly faded lettering. The buckle clasp end of the belt (with the two brass looking hooks) has some text right under it that bears the Mixon Leathercraft (or in this case Leathercraft Mixon) stylized font oval logo with a Miami, Fla. location at the bottom followed by a 71 all the way at the end. I figure this must be the model of the belt while another number is found at the other end of the belt where the buckle itself is located and that reads 40; which logically must be the waist size. The width (or should I say height?) of the belt itself is about 2.5″ (that’s two and a half inches) wide… so you’ll need pretty tall/wide belt loops on your pants in order to accommodate it properly. The belt was kept in a storage box for so long that it was pretty dried out when it was stumbled upon just last month. I soaked it with leather reconditioner fluid in order to restore it and make it more bendable. While this seems to have worked, I still feel that it will need further restoration work done to it, and I’m really just an amateur when it comes to treating dried out leather goods. I also can’t say for sure what color this belt really is. Sometimes it looks like just plain black leather with a brownish or reddish undercoat, but looking at it again, it almost looks like it’s dark brown. Maybe there’s something wrong with my eyes, I don’t know… but there are worn stretch marks on it from overall age… and this marks have gaps in them that almost appear to be orange. It’s just a basic nuance of old leather really. The hooks for the belt also had a touch of green oxidation on them, so I took an abrasive polishing wheel on a handheld rotary tool to it and managed to clean it up quite a bit. There’s still bit of green there close to the leather, but I don’t want to risk damaging the leather by getting the rotary polishing pad too close to this area. The buckle too also had quite a dull look to it when it was found, so I polished that up as well and managed to restore the shine and the same goes for the buttons on the three loops. The belt has quite a strong smell to it. There is also some wear on the fastening holes for the belt buckle as well… particularly on the fifth and eighth set of holes. They look like they were excessively poked with the buckle. The HC1 Handcuff Holster, on the other hand, was found about a year or so ago in a tool shed; after it had been kept there (along with a few other tool sheds that each got ravaged by hurricanes) for an unknown number of years. I believe it had been in there since the late nineties, if memory serves. Either way, it got very exposed to the elements and dried up. When I first came across it, I thought it was something related to motorcycle accessory storage, but when I looked up the HC1 and Mixson Leathercraft imprints (which can be found on the back of the holster, where the openings slits are for placement on a belt) the results yielded a similar listing and it all pretty much made sense from that point onward. This holster was dry as mentioned before (and excessively dirty in a lot of areas), so I made my best effort to clean it up and restore it again using the same leather restoration or reconditioner oil after wiping it down with some alcohol wipes and Windex. The result yielded was not what I expected, and I can tell that this item still has a long way to go; restoration wise… this item is basically for someone who’s an expert in this field; as it’s technically outside of my wheel house. To make matters a little more complicated, the bottom half of the button on the flap which snaps onto the one on the main part of the holster itself is missing… most likely broken off as a result of prolonged oxidation. So now there’s no way to snap it closed, and it’s just remaining open for the most part. Bending the flap only caused some highly unwanted cracks to appear in the leather; which signifies just what level of wear this item has been through. I had the HC1 holster listed for sale by itself up until last month, but decided to end that listing and redo it in order to include the belt as well… since I feel that both of these items should go together. While the holster appears to have slits that are more than wide enough for the belt… it’s incredibly dry and not that malleable at the moment. Further conditioning will be needed in order to make this accessory bend enough to fit onto the belt itself. Because of the overall condition and additional work that may be needed for these items, I’m selling this lot in as-is condition and pricing it accordingly; so please be sure to get in on this deal while it still lasts, for my loss is your gain as they say in the trade.
