Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a lovely antique 5″ Wave Crest Art Glass dresser box by the C. F. Monroe Company, c. 1900. Measures 5″ wide and 3 1/2″ high. Weighs 1.7 pounds. Wave Crest glass was produced as an opal glass blank and was then decorated. Originally called “Opal Ware”, this glass was at the height of its popularity from 1890 to 1910. Much of the opal glass known as Wave Crest was produced by the Mt. Washington Glass Co. and was then purchased by the C. F. Monroe Co. as undecorated glass blanks to be decorated by their artists. This box features a soft pale blue background with hand painted lavender flowers with green foliage on center top. The painted decoration is encircled with a molded flower and swag design. The top and base are fitted with a decorative embossed brass band. The hinge is tight and the box opens and closed correctly. This nice box is in excellent Estate condition with no chips, cracks or repairs. The base has a slightly raised foot ring with a concave bottom. This area is painted blue the same as the rest of the body, however, the box may originally have had a decorative brass footed ring around this area – we can’t be sure. Either way, the box has a great look and will definitely not disappoint. The box is unmarked as is most C. F. Monroe products, however, the box is guaranteed to be Wave Crest by the C. F.
