RARE Antique Knowles Taylor Knowles Small Vase / Brush Jar White & Pink w/ Roses EARLY 1890s Antique Knowles, Taylor, Knowles White Ironstone with Gold Lines, Pink Band and Rose Floral Decal – Small Vase / Brush Jar – this is early toilet ware that mimicked other potters of the time including TST and Homer Laughlin – this piece would make a beautiful vase or decor piece! Has a very old handwritten note detailing the piece – even if it has some of the information incorrect, still a cool relic that is included with the piece! Knowles, Taylor & Knowles (KT&K) was a pottery company in East Liverpool, Ohio from 1854 to 1931. The original owners were: Issac Knowles, John Taylor, (Issac’s son-in-law) and Homer Knowles (Issac’s son). The pottery produced all types of wares from yellow ware, ironstone, and semi-vitreous dinnerware, but it is best known for the light-weight, translucent Lotus Ware. Produced mainly in the 1890s, Lotus was meant to compete with the successfull Belleek porcelain made in Ireland. High cost and breakage forced K&TK to halt production of Lotus. KT&K is not to be confused with Knowles China of Newell, WV. Even though Edwin M. Knowles of Knowles China was the son of Issac, the two companies operated independently of each other. In 1929, KT&K merged with several other potteries to form the American China Corporation, but the company folded due to the Great Depression. Use this piece as a collectible décor set or to add to your antique KTK collection – we have lots of collectible pieces in the store – see link below! We do combine shipping if purchasing more than any one listing in the store. Antique toilet ware took off in the 1880s. Sets were made for the home as well as for use in hospitals and hotels. A standard set for the home was made up of: a chamber pot – usually a one handled bowl with a lid, a slop jar – larger than a chamber pot with handles on either side, a combinet – similar to a slop jar, but with a wire handle, a covered soap dish – often with a circular insert, shaving mug, brush jar, two sizes of ewers, and a basin. Condition: Good to very good antique condition overall – no chips, cracks. Has some under the glaze crazing, typical of antique pottery. Has a factory mold flaw on the bottom rim that has darkened over time, but is stable and not cracked. Little to no wear on the floral decals – some light wear on the top gold trim line from use and handling. Piece may have small factory production imperfections such as sand bumps, glaze skips, glaze pops, etc – all part of factory production. Little to no issues with this piece. Beautiful condition!
