“Rare” working 1922 nickel-black (brass) dial candlestick phone Ericsson made and used in Coventry, England. The factory was blown up during WWII. Ericsson factories were all over the world, including Buffalo, NY. This phone was a survivor. It may have been one of hundreds that ended up in a scrap pile and then were purchased by Bob Prosser in the late 1940s or the 1950s. I then bought many from Bob in the 1970s and in the 1990s. This one is rare because of several criteria. Mary called me on it 10-24-23. Everything worked! I could hear her well! It was probably wired in the 1980s because it has a 4-prong plug (we can enclose a modular adapter). What? You don’t have a land line? No sweat; it should work with a cell line circuit. I’ll show you. The “electrified” transmitter is of British Isles origin; probably England, used in phones during the 1940s, 50s, and 60s here. The dial is not Ericsson, and that is another story. Few or none are left which are of these criteria and it’s not likely that we will restore or purchase any others. The presence of an old braided cloth cord also is a rarity. Having good nickel plating is another rarity. Having such an original receiver is another rarity. Having an originally nickel plated brass transmitter-perch bolt and nut is another rarity. It would be unlikely to find another candlestick with these rarely seen details. The dial is a 1922 model Automatic Electric. The only reproduction part we would install would be a small funnel shaped transmitter mouthpiece. An old one could be had for extra cost. Two screws are missing in the transmitter face/cup. The phone is approximately 13″ tall and 6″ wide. I hope to put more of my LMEs on eBay; but it is very unlikely any will be like this one. The story about Ericsson and the phones they made is interesting to many including myself; and I ‘d be glad to share with you. The dial type was introduced in 1922 and was made probably into the 1930s but I’m unsure of exact dates.
