1873 Antique French Lithograph ~ Silk Printing Design Art ~ This is a beautiful Russian Design, titled RUSSE Rare 1873 Chromolithograph Print from Auguste Racinet / Firmin Didot – L’ornement polychrome ~ Paris Size of Print: 16″ x 11″ (Image is about 12″ x 9″) Rare large chromolithograph print, from a folio of plates ‘L’ornement polychrome’,published in Paris by Librairie de Firmin-Didot Freres between 1873 and 1888. Born in Paris, Auguste Racinet, (1825-1893), an artist of considerable merit is highly acclaimed as one of the leading art historians of the period. This is an original 1873 print, not to be confused with the modern reprinted versions widely available. Very Good condition. You will receive the item pictured, so the pictures are integral to the condition report and listing. This original plate from ‘L’ornement polychrome’ is a rare and much sought after book. Richly illustrated with these highly detailed plates, adapted from borders, tiles, carved wood panels, and other ornamental sources, the designs include classic Egyptian, Greek, Roman and Etruscan motifs; Chinese, Japanese, Persian and Indian patterns; samples from the Arabic and Byzantine cultures; Celtic, medieval, Renaissance and 18th century European art. The famous “Cliff” Hotel in San Francisco had these hanging on every floor and room of their Victorian Hotel. They are very beautiful and detailed.
