Weight: 14.8 oz. *** DESCRIPTION & CONDITION Up for auction is this gorgeous and vintage small glazed stoneware blue & white vase with a incised/pressed modern abstract, brutalist style motif and artist’s initials (SH). This item was designed and crafted by SYLVIA MARGARET HARDAKER for Kenilworth Pottery, presumably sometime between 1970-’80s. She was a student of Bernard Leach who is among the most respected and influential potters in the world. The Leach Pottery is considered by many to be the birthplace of British studio pottery. S M Hardaker later opened her own studio in Warwickshire. Her name appears alongside many of Leach’s most prominent students in Marion Whybrows 1996 book “LEACH POTTERY ST IVES – THE LEGACY OF BERNARD LEACH”. Sylvia is a listed artist who passed away in 2023.This ceramic vase is in excellent condition. The makers mark is clearly visible on the underside edge. This item, with it’s very attractive design by a very well recognized English potter artist is just perfect and ready to be shown off alongside her other pieces in your collection. Or, this is a perfect piece to start a new collection or just add it to any other studio pottery collection. Its a lovely little piece that will standout anywhere and, or in any décor .
