These legendary creatures have captivated mankind’s imagination since prehistory, with the origins of the Dragon lost in the mists of time. Certainly, they were known to the ancients—Greeks, Romans, Jews and Chinese all had their versions, and of course it was a dragon the finally slew Beowulf, the hero of Germanic myth. Outstanding, Symbolic Design Two rampaging, Imperial Chinese dragons circle the pearl of eternal wisdom in the center of this outstanding, highly symbolic design. One dragon is gold, a most powerful color that represents wealth (naturally) and strength, and is linked to the metal energy of Yang. The other dragon is purple, a color royal in nature, which promotes prosperity, good fortune and health, and is linked to the balance of the Yin energy. Accompanying the dragon amidst the stylized clouds are fish, which symbolize abundance and harmony. Taken as a whole, this is a most significant and auspicious design! The Chinese Dragon The Oriental or Chinese concept of the dragon is much different than the European notion of this beast. Whereas in the West dragons are nearly always evil, fire breathing creatures of immense size and destructiveness, in the East they are beloved. In yin and yang terminology, a dragon is yang (male) and perfectly complements a yin (female) fenghuang, the mythical “Chinese phoenix”.
