*V. RARE* Early (1950s-1960s) LA SAVINELLI PUNTO ORO 623 *N. MINT* Estate Pipe A very beautiful pipe, rhodesian shape, slightly bent, with square shank & stem, and saddle mouthpiece. Deeply sandblasted, with medium-large bowl size (similar in size to something between Dunhill’s Group 3 and Group 4). The Punto Oro series is the series that established the brand Savinelli. The ‘LA SAVINELLI’ stamp is the company’s early stamp which was replaced some time close to 1970 by the plain ‘SAVINELLI’ stamp (though it was continued until today but exclusively for the Giubileo series). Punto Oro with ‘LA SAVINELLI’ stamp cannot be found after 1970. However here we have a contradiction: The company’s shape code numbers before 1970 were 4-digit and later became 3-digit (with exception of the Dry System series). We assume that first the 4-digit code became 3-digit and soon after the stamp ‘LA SAVINELLI’ changed also to plain ‘SAVINELLI’. Nevertheless, this is a rare Punto Oro which is in near mint condition on all of its parts without faults.
