WARNING… THE COLLECTION IS A REPRODUCTION FROM THE ORIGINALS Productos Yupi, a snack company based in Colombia, has been a major distributor of snacks produced for children for many decades. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the company marketed its products including a small premium colored plastic toy figure with its snacks. The Yupi corporation spanned many popular genres of children’s entertainment, creating short-lived lines of individually and uniquely sculpted figures in PVC plastic of different colors. The figures were licensed products and included figure lines from multiple licensees, including Hanna-Barbera, Marvel, DC, Lucasfilm, Disney, Warner Brothers, and many others. The lines included figure sets of the Flintstones, the Thundercats, Masters of the Universe, Woody Woodpecker, the Adventures of Tintin, and many superhero and villain sets, including figures such as Wolverine, Spider-Man, Batman, and Superman. A set was even produced for the A team! Of particular interest to collectors is the line of short-lived figures manufactured by Productos Yupi for Star Wars in the late 1980s. This extraordinary line of figures is among, if not *the*, rarest production line of vintage Star Wars figures ever produced. However, the intrigue of the Yupi line of Star Wars figures is much more interesting than its obscurity. When the Yupi sculptors began planning and choosing the characters to be used in the Star Wars line, it was at a point where the entire old series had already been produced and released. Instead of sculpting the characters from scratch, they opted to sculpt their line of figures by copying the Kenner sculpts in mini proportion to the vintage Kenner line. This included Kenner’s gun figure options, often comically oversized! (This is true for most figures, with a few exceptions, including the Kenner figures that had soft covers and were produced with unique sculpts by Yupi Corporation.) The end result was a world-spanning set of licensed vintage Star Wars mini figures. the entire saga and were based on Kenner action figures starting with the 1977 Star Wars line and ending with the 1985 droid line. The figures are not articulated and come in a variety of colors for each figure produced. As for copyright information, the letters LFL are prominently stamped on the back of each figure. Also of note is that the bottom of each figure has small foot holes reminiscent of the peg holes on the bottom of Kenner figures, as if Yupi was planning a game or stand. As far as rarity goes, most figures are currently only known to exist in the low single digits in all colors combined. In addition, no advertising or discarded packaging has been found so far.
