Restored to mirror finish with some deep pitting and scratches still visible. New ebony scales, bone wedge, brass pins. This rare 13/16″ half-hollow grind blade is restored and paired with new scales of African Blackwood (AKA ebony), bone wedge, brass pin washers, polished brass pins. Scales were given 3 coats of Renaissance Wax with 1 coat on the blade. Some deep pitting remains after polish as well as some of the original grind marks. Bevel shows a kasumi finish typical of a JNAT honed blade. The apex of the bevel shows no chips, cracks, pits or defects under magnification. One pit is present at the shoulder of the bevel and does not affect performance of the shave. IMHO this pit is not deep enough to present at the apex of the bevel during future honing. If you want a picture just send me a message and I will set that up. JNAT honed with a Nakayama Maruka using an Atoma 1200 to raise slurry then thinned to almost water. The stones used from bevel set to finish were all flat to give this smiling blade a very nice edge. The hefty, shoulderless blade combined with the sturdy half-hollow grind and JNAT edge gives a great shaving experience (nice and close with no razor burn). The dual beveled French point nose is a signature grind of many ERN razors as is the slight thumb notch on the tang. There is jimping on the bottom of the tang but not on the top. The logo stamp on the tang is a variation of the Eagle and Snake logo with the snake facing straight upwards and the eagles wings more parallel to ground, (I cannot find another quite like it), IMHO this would be a variation predating the shift to crown and sword logo around 1897. The makers ID on the face of the tang indicates: 72 C. FRIEDR.ERN GARANTIE SOLINGEN Smiling blade is nicely centered in the scales and closes with very snug action. Stropping is a pleasure with a tight pivot pin. Buyer may be charged taxes or other fees by eBay.
