Based off its serial number 1937, this example is a Rev D (1239-2331, according to Universal Audio's website). The Urei 1176LN Rev. C, D, and E are considered the best revision of this classic compressor. They use a Class A amplifier, transformers in the input and output stages. It’s definitely the favorite among engineers and producers on vocal chains. All three revisions use the very same circuit. While C had the Low Noise circuit in a separate module, on D this module was incorporated to the main board. In E, a switch to change voltage operation between $115v/230v was added, remaining everything else exactly the same way as D and C. Even though the chassis has some scratches and chips around the edges, the electronics inside look in excellent shape and are still original, except for the electrolytic capacitors that were just replaced. Replacing this type of capacitors of vintage equipment is necessary after several years of use as they lose their original values over time. This compressor works great and has no issues. Earlier this year it was serviced and calibrated by David Kulka at Studio Electronics, one of the best known tech shops in the US. The front panel was drilled in the past to house input/output 1/4 inch jacks. They have been removed and the wholes have been covered. New pig tails with Japanese Canon connectors and Belden cabling are included as well, so its ready to be plugged and played! Chassi and knobs are very clean and in great shape.
