So began one of history’s most unlikely wars, which saw briatian;s first woman prime minister, Margaret Thatcher, send an outnumbered and outgunned Task Force 8,000 miles to liberate 1,800 British civilians trapped under Argentina rule, and to strike a blow for freedom and international law during the dangerous era of the Cold War. Mrs Thatcher’s War is strategic solitaire (one Player) game on the the 1982 war, designed by R. Ben Madison -who visited the Falkland Islands and its battlefields doing research for this game. This fun and challenging game illustrates the general strategic course of the war and highlights important historical themes, packing a vast amount of military and political detail into a small footprint. It is the third and final title in the British Wars Trilogy from White Dog Games. It is really four armies in one! First, you are in a race against time: the game’s 19 turns cover the vital months of April-June 1982, from the arrival of the British Task Force off the Falklands to the arrival of the vicious South Atlantic winter that will end your military operations. Second, you must use your fleet, its air arm, and your submarine force to establish enough strategic control in the South Atlantic to be able to land ground forces – in the face of Argentina’s deadly Exocet missiles. Next, your Harrier jets will do battle Argentina’s tough Air Force in the skies over East Falkland itself, trying to dominate enough small air sectors to protect the British Army on the ground. Finally, you will use your army units to ‘ypmp’ forward, sweeping mine fields, battling Argentine patrols, and engaging in full-scale battles for control of civilian settlements and the vital ring of hiss around Stanley-all while battling politicians and the press back home, IF you make the right decisions your strategic objective can be achieved the liberation of the Falkland Islands from enemy occupation.
